About

The Center for Sustainable Building Research's (CSBR) role is to "transform the built environment in ways that provide for the ecological, economic, and social needs of the present without compromising those of the future," and to build eco-literacy in the broader community. CSBR creates viable pathways capable of transforming the built environment in the state and region to be a powerful model of regenerative design and development for deep sustainability on a global stage.

CSBR's projects focus on six areas: energy and climate change, the water cycle, sustainable materials for a healthy built environment, measuring regenerative design, equitable designs to provide sustainability for all, and creating regenerative and resilient communities.

  • Identify a path to a regenerative development future, addressing building challenges unique to the climate, topography, landscape and culture.
  • Encourage, assist, and inspire the design community, policymakers, and community development leaders to implement incremental steps between standard and regenerative levels, effecting positive change for all living systems.
  • Aid developers and their financial partners in seeing the value of implementing 21st Century Development strategies.
  • Identify economic and policy barriers to regenerative levels of development, and advocate for the alignment of civic policies with 21st Century Development principles.
  • Inspire other regions to develop standards of development in their communities.
