Emerging Regenerative Design

A regenerative system approach can transform architecture to be not only sustainable, but also resilient in a dynamic world. Sustainable development has been a focus for at least the last 25 years. However, the international development community has failed to fundamentally transform the performance of the built environment in the most critical indicator: ecological footprint.

"Greening" focuses on making existing throughput systems more efficient, instead of redesigning the system to function like a living system that self-renews and integrates with natural processes to "regenerate." CSBR is taking green building prototypes and modifying them with features to achieve a regenerative system. The outcome of the project would be design guidance for use by architects in their practice and to develop new metrics for sustainable development.
